Wiltshire Heritage Museum

The museum traces the history of Wiltshire from earliest times to the present day through a series of galleries: Natural History, Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Saxon, Medieval and Recent History.  The prehistoric collections are among the finest in Britain with outstanding finds from the Barrows around Stonehenge.

There are a variety of interactives, colouring sheets and activity sheets throughout the galleries for school groups.  A Museum trail is available on request.  Groups can also make a Romain coin each (booking essential).

The Museum has an Education Officer who can be booked in advance to deliver hands on sessions linked to a variety of history topics on the National Curriculum.  These include artefact handling, art and craft activities and role play.  They can be catered to the needs of the school and pupils.

There is a small shop which children can visit and a room available for lunch is booked in advance.  Visits led by the school’s teacher cost £1 per pupil.  Sessions led by the Education Officer cost by £2 per pupil.  Accompanying teachers free of charge.
